Description
Minecraft is a sandbox indie computer game created by Swedish programmer Markus Persson and published by his studio Mojang AB. In 2009, Persson published the initial version of the game; at the end of 2011, a stable version was released for Windows, Linux and macOS computers, distributed through the official website. In the following years, Minecraft was ported to mobile devices running Android, iOS, and Windows Phone; on game consoles PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Xbox 360, Xbox One, New Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo Switch and Wii U; and other platforms. In 2014, Microsoft acquired the rights to Minecraft along with Mojang AB for $2.5 billion. In 2017, a multi-platform version was released, bringing together different versions of games for different devices.

Persson wrote Minecraft in the Java programming language using the LWJGL graphics rendering library, drawing ideas from games such as Dwarf Fortress, Dungeon Keeper, and Infiniminer. Minecraft gives special players a procedurally generated and changeable three-dimensional world, completely made up of cubes - it can be freely rebuilt, complex structures can be tested because of this cubes - this feature makes the game look like constructors created like Lego. Minecraft does not set any specific goals for the player, but offers him freedom of action: for example, the player can explore the world, extract minerals, favorites with discovery, and much more. The game includes additional modes, for example, survival, where the player needs to extract resources himself, and creativity, where the player has these resources in unlimited quantities. The Redstone mechanic allows you to create complex and rare schemes in Minecraft - thus the game can serve as a virtual constructor for programmers and engineers.

Minecraft received a universal launch and many awards. Among the most important reviewers are the minimalist and catchy design that makes the game stand out from the background of AAA projects; replayability; ease of learning; and greater creative freedom, limited only by the player's imagination. They consider the difficulty of creating network games, the lack of a training mode and the presence of unfinished game elements as disadvantages; however, the builders eliminated these later years.

Minecraft is the best-selling game in history, with over 238 million copies sold across all platforms as of 2021, with 172 million players launching the game at least once a month. Entertainment has played a large role in the promotion and commercial success of Minecraft, including YouTube videos and many external modifications. As the prevalence of the game grew, the possibility of non-game applications, in particular, in the broad sense of this approach and education, was also discussed. In 2016, Mojang Studios collaborated with Xbox Game Studios to develop a special edition of Minecraft: Education Edition for educational institutions.

Minecraft has had a huge impact on the PC gaming industry and has spawned many clones. At the time of launch, it is an entire franchise that includes, in addition to the main game, such games as Minecraft: Story Mode, Minecraft Earth, Minecraft Dungeons and Minecraft Legends
