Description

Rockstar North is a video game development company based in Edinburgh, Scotland. It is a subsidiary of Rockstar Games, which is owned by Take-Two Interactive. Rockstar North is best known for creating the Grand Theft Auto series, one of the most successful and influential video game franchises of all time. The company was founded in 1987 as DMA Design by David Jones and his former classmates from the Kingsway Amateur Computer Club in Dundee. The company initially developed games for the Amiga, Atari ST and Commodore 64 platforms, such as Menace, Blood Money and Lemmings. In 1997, DMA Design released Grand Theft Auto, a game that allowed players to explore a vast open world and engage in various criminal activities. The game was a huge hit and spawned several sequels and spin-offs. In 1999, DMA Design was acquired by Take-Two Interactive and became part of the Rockstar Games label. In 2001, the company changed its name to Rockstar North and released Grand Theft Auto III, a game that revolutionized the industry with its 3D graphics, cinematic storytelling and immersive gameplay. Since then, Rockstar North has continued to develop the Grand Theft Auto series, as well as other games such as Manhunt, Red Dead Redemption and Max Payne 3
